- Rohypnol is a strong sedative.
- Member of the central nervous system depressant family

- Usually dissolves clear in liquids

- “Roche” is inscribed on one side of the pill along with an encircled “1” or “2”

Who Uses Rohypnol?

- Users tend to be 13 to 30 year old males
Routes of Administration
- Consumed with alcohol to “soften the blow” of coming down from the stimulant high
- Orally
- Injection
- Snorting
Short - Term Effects
- Effects begin within 15 to 20 minutes, peak within 2 hours and may last for 12 hours or more
- User may feel intoxicated then sleepy
- Slurred speech
- Impaired judgment
- Difficulty talking
- Can cause:
- deep sedation
- Respiratory distress
- Decreased blood pressure
- Headaches
- Nightmares
- Amnesia – users may forget events experienced while under the influence
- Can cause users to become aggressive
Long - Term Effects
- Regular use results in tolerance and physical dependence
- Risk of becoming addicted
- Users with a history of drug or alcohol abuse are at greater risk for dependence
- If Rohypnol is abruptly stopped, withdrawal symptoms will appear
- Withdrawal symptoms may include:
- Headache
- Muscle pain
- Extreme anxiety

- Loss of identity
- Hallucinations

- Rohypnol is known as a “date-rape” drug because the drug is sometimes given to unwary victims without their consent
- Drug is sometimes used to incapacitate women and men with the intent of sexual assault
- Attackers slip the pill into a drink at the bar, night club, rave, or party
Ways to Prevent Unknowingly Consuming
- Attend events and parties with friends who will watch out for you
- Watch your drink when it is being poured
- Never leave your drink unattended
What to Do if You Believe this Pill has Been Added to Your Drink:
- Tests can be administered up to 48 hours after ingestion
- If you believe you have been assaulted:
- Contact a rape crisis center or hospital immediately
- Tell hospital staff if you suspect that you may have been drugged
- Get medical attention due to the threat of:
- HIV infection
- Pregnancy
- Sexually transmitted diseases
